Yesterday was Maundy Thursday. This day signifies the night Jesus was betrayed by Judas and arrested. To celebrate this extra special event in our lives, we had an extra special Maundy Thursday worship service at our church.
I had never been to a Maundy Thursday service, so I didn't know what to expect. However, I can now say that it was one of the most meaningful services I have ever experienced.
The service started with communion. I have taken communion several times in my Christian life but never quite like this. Usually the ushers pass out the bread, the congregation eats "the body" and does like-wise with the "blood." Last night the pastor called each of us to the alter by pew. We took the Holy Communion on our knees at the alter. How amazing!
We then went to a ceremonial foot washing service. In the upper room on the night he was arrested, Christ washed all of his disciples' feet (even Judas who he knew would later betray Him.) Men and women were separated into different rooms, and we each washed someone else's feet. My feet were washed by a precious little lady in her 70's. WOW! What a humbling experience! Thank you Lord for the love you show us every day. Thank you for sending your perfect Son as the sacrificial lamb for all of our sins!
